Provide Hydration
To keep the tree small, bonsai tree have been grown in shallow trays of soil. Due to the shallow tray, the bonsai soil dry out quickly so you need to plunge the tray of the bonsai into a bucket of room temperature water. There are also have some soils that will difficult to be moisten when there are have been dry out. Watering from the top of the tray will just wet the top of the soil, the majority of the water runs down the sides and out the bottom of the tray. Water could be saturated the soil if you plunging the entire tray under water, the best is leave the tray under water at least 20 minutes until it stop bubbling.

Floating Soil
The root ball could be float up and out of the tray if the soil is very dry the risk is the tray won’t be stayed on underwater. To avoid this put the some pebbles on the top of the bonsai soil as the anchor to keep it underwater.

Separating Soil
Generally, when you put the tray on underwater, the dry soil will separate from the root ball. To avoid that problem, you could use ice cubes by placing the ice on the top of the soil and then move it to place that expose by sunlight to let the ice melts. When the ice melts that soil will saturate with water and put entire tray underwater.

Wilted Leaves
There are some type of bonsai tree could recover their leaves after you have place it underwater and there are also have some type won’t be recover but generally you must wait until 24 hours to see the result. If the leave still wilted it means that they will fall off. When you see the leave wilted, don’t pull or cut them because some tree variety has the new leaves growing at the base of the old leaves. If you persistence to cut the wilted leaves you could possible to cut the new leaves as well. You should cut the bonsai tree back and mist he branches with water if new growth on your bonsai tree don’t appear in several week.
